Guest Policy
At the DE meeting on March 31, 2012, a revised policy was adopted regarding guests. The purpose was to give prospective members and others a glimpse into what the Desert Explorers and their trips are about:
Guests who drive their own vehicle: Driver Guests, those who choose to drive their own vehicle, must make a $10 contribution to the Mojave River Valley Museum. These guests are encouraged to first seek the trip leader’s approval for their participation and recognize that the trip leader has final authority. If the trip leader accepts the guest, the guest must sign the Hold Harmless and Personal Responsibility Agreement. The trip leader is responsible for collecting and forwarding the $10 contribution. These guests should also be encouraged by the trip leader and any other member friends they may have to join the Mojave River Valley Museum.
Guests who are passengers only: Passenger Guests do not have to make a contribution to the Mojave River Valley Museum, but must sign the Hold Harmless and Personal Responsibility Agreement. The host member is also responsible for such guests. While there presently isn’t a limit on the number of times a passenger guest may attend, they are also to be encouraged to become members of the Mojave River Valley Museum.
We haven’t had guest problems in the past and don’t expect to have any in the future. But now we can be more open to guest participation. The $10 Driver Guest contribution should be an effective way of limiting the times such a guest may participate as a guest; by the time they’ve attended two trips, they might as well have joined the Museum.
